Careful What You Leave

By Zig Ziglar

“The measure of a life, after all, is not its duration but its donation.”  Corrie Ten Boom
I love the story told by Glen Van Ekeren in his book, The Speaker's Source Book.  It was a hot, humid day in the middle of Kansas City.  The eight-hour shift seemed especially long for the veteran bus driver.  Suddenly, a young woman, apparently upset about something, let loose with a string of unforgettable, not to mention unrepeatable, words.  The bus driver, looking in his overhead mirror, could sense everyone around her was embarrassed by the string of profanity.  Still mumbling, the angry passenger began to disembark a few blocks later.  As she stepped down, the bus driver calmly said, "Madam, I believe you're leaving something behind."  She quickly turned and snapped, "Oh?  And what is that?"  "A very bad impression," the bus driver responded.
It has been generally recognized as truth that our first impression of a person is one we will hold for the longest time, and the last impression we have of that person is held almost as long.  It has been said that we generally make up our mind within a matter of seconds of meeting a person as to whether or not we're going to like them or even trust them.  Those few seconds are important and will affect our decisions regarding that person for a long time.
One of the best ways to make a good first impression is with a smile and a pleasant demeanor.  Yes, the first and last impressions are important, but over the long haul it's trust and character that determine the length and extent of most relationships.  Think about it.  Make good first impressions - make good last impressions, and in between be the right kind of person.  You'll collect an awful lot of friends and admirers.  Take that approach and I'll SEE YOU AT THE TOP!

Chatter of the Masses

By Bob Proctor

Reader’s Digest is a great publication. It always has a number of articles that are mentally stimulating. The following lines were picked up from a Reader’s Digest a number of years ago.
Small minds talk about people.
Average minds talk about events.
Great minds talk about ideas.

I have come to believe this is fairly accurate. I suppose we all fall into the first two categories; talking about people and events periodically. However, have you ever noticed that those two categories dominate the conversation of most people? Listen carefully and you will hear a buzz of meaningless noise going on around you almost constantly.
It would almost appear as if people were under some obligation to talk whether they had anything to say or not. I refer to this as the chatter of the masses.
If you are not mentally on guard without noticing it happen, you will be swept into this useless waste of time and energy.
If you don’t consciously and deliberately create order in your mind, your environment or the people surrounding you will dictate your mental state of being.
Observe those who are surrounding you on any given occasion. Their conversation and actions could very easily change completely four or five times in less than a minute.
If you think I am exaggerating, check this out for yourself or possibly get involved with a few people in conversation and deliberately change the topic as often as possible over four or five times a minute. If you don’t tell them what you are doing, they will never notice but they will willingly follow.
What does this mean? Well, your mind is the greatest power in the universe. If you’re not diligent you will waste it and go nowhere. Consciously choose to associate with those great souls who discuss BIG Ideas. Your life will never be the same.

5 Paradigms You Didn’t Even Know You Had

By Bob Proctor,

I have a paradigm.
So do you.
To continue to grow, though, we must lead ourselves outside of our paradigms.
The following are five common, but often subtle, paradigms that affect the outcome of our lives. Take a look to see which ones might be shaping your life.
1. Paradigm: Everything is fine.
Life isn’t a struggle, but it’s not anything to write home about either. You’ve accepted that this is the best you’re going to get in life. Maybe because you’ve settled or you feel you don’t deserve more.
Or perhaps you just haven’t invested the time to think about what you truly want. Without a goal to pull you forward, you’ve resigned yourself to the status quo.
This paradigm is pervasive; however, it is subtly different for everyone. So don’t automatically push it aside if, at first blush, you don’t think it applies to you. Sit with it for a while to see if anything comes up.
Breakthrough Perspective: I am happy, but not satisfied.
Just like a seed in the ground wants more sunlight, nutrients and water, we all have a natural desire to grow and evolve.
The law of our being is to know more, to do more and to be more. Each time we achieve something, another desire for even greater good develops naturally—if we allow it to.
As you’ll see in just a minute, adopting a new perspective is about telling your truth. In this case, it’s acknowledging that you’re actually not satisfied with “good enough.” You want an extraordinary life; you want more for yourself and the world.
2. Paradigm: I’ve reached my income limit.
You reached a particular financial position and no matter how hard you work or what you do, your income pretty much stays the same. You feel stuck and can’t figure out how to get over this financial hurdle.
Breakthrough Perspective: I am excited about my financial future.
You can earn more money than you’ve ever dreamed of. However, you can’t do it by talking about, thinking, or feeling there’s a ceiling on your income.
Dwelling on your stagnated income only brings more stagnation. The Universe responds to what you believe.
Increased income can come only from right and positive thinking, and well-conceived and properly executed plans.
Start by getting a sheet of paper and writing down all the negative beliefs you have about money and your ability to earn more of it. Then, let those beliefs go by shredding or burning the paper.
Re-direct your mind to develop a prosperity consciousness, and the money you desire will be yours.
3. Paradigm: My best days are behind me.
Many people, particularly in their 40s and beyond, feel like they’ve already accomplished what they can, and there is not enough time left for them to start a new career, relationship, improve their health, or accumulate money.
This belief system will hit home for you if, on some level, you have given up on your goals. You may have a “why bother” kind of attitude.
Breakthrough Perspective: My best years are yet to come.
In The 100-Year Lifestyle, Dr. Eric Plasker says that your body has the hardware to live 100 years and beyond.
If you knew you’d live to 100, how would you change your life? Would you still feel you’ve already accomplished everything you can?
Our life span is increasing all the time. Expect to be prosperous, happy and healthy for 100 years and beyond. Adopting this new perspective does nothing but good for your life today and in the years to come.
I’m nearly 82 years old, and I have huge goals and more energy than many 30-year-olds. And I don’t plan to slow down anytime soon.
So if you feel like your best days are behind you, stop wasting your life and get back in the game. Get ready for your next big thing!
4. Paradigm: I am unlovable.
You feel lonely and believe you’ll never find a loving partner. You might think that if you had someone who loved you, your life would be a lot better.
Or maybe you’re very outgoing and have a great sense of humor, but inside you’re sad and lonely because you secretly feel you’re unlovable. You might go in and out of relationships because you often settle for the first person who shows interest.
Perhaps you believe you’re unlovable because you are overweight, and the number on the scale determines your value as a human being. You might think nobody wants to be burdened with someone your size.
Breakthrough Perspective: I love myself, and that love comes back to me multiplied.
You have the freedom to feel any way you want about yourself. So why would you want to belittle yourself?
If you feel unlovable in any way, create a new image of yourself and become emotionally involved with that image by, as often as possible, thinking and FEELING what it be like to be that person.
Your subconscious mind can’t distinguish between what’s real and imaginary, so get very clear about the image you want of yourself.
As you go through your day focus only on what you want (love, happiness, health). Also, develop a new way of speaking to yourself and others. Otherwise, you will sabotage yourself with negative self-image dialogue.
5. Paradigm: I need the world’s approval.
Whenever you want to do something new, you look outside of yourself for validation.
You seek approval, appreciation, acknowledgement and guidance from your employer, co-workers, friends, clients or parents. Or you look at conditions and circumstances to prove that you’re on the right path.
This paradigm is often hard to see because most of us naturally sell our abilities short. Take an honest look at your life to see if you need outside approval before going for goals or taking on new things.
Breakthrough Perspective: Spirit guides me at all times.
Religious texts tell us that we were created in God’s image, and we are “a little lower than the angels.”
So if you think your desires aren’t important, or you have an image in your mind of yourself as doomed to fail, that’s a false idea that you must let it go.
When you have a strong desire to do, create, or express something, that longing is divine discontent. It’s Spirit calling you. And if you answer the call, you will be guided and assured of success.
No matter how many of these paradigms you can relate to, you can shift to a new way of thinking.
What happens when you change your perspective
What do you see when you look at the illustration below?

At first, you might see a young lady. However, if you shift your perspective, you’ll see an old woman.
Whatever you perceive to be true about the illustration (i.e., it’s a young lady or an old woman) affects how you think, feel and respond to it.
That’s the power of accepting a new perspective of your paradigm.
Now I would love to hear from you.

Will You Change Your Lifestyle For A Cause

 By

pic showing earth submerging in water if you don't change your lifestyle
If the world demands you to change your lifestyle – will you do it?
Okay, let me put it in another way.
Is it asking for too much if you are requested to make lifestyle changes in your life for a cause?
I know what you’d think. Your decision might depend on a few things.
If the need is genuine, if the situation is so alarming, and whether it will really make a difference.
Let me tell you that the answer to all of the above is “YES”.
Your lifestyle is directly related to global warming.
I’m sorry if this is a shocker for you, but it’s a truth that we all need to accept.
The need for a change of lifestyle is genuine because the global conditions are really alarming.
Certainly, your lifestyle change can make a whole lot of difference in saving the face of the earth – in saving the planet.
If you’re wondering why did I bring up this issue and why am I so serious, read further.

What is The Real Problem

Probably, everybody has heard of climate change and global warming.
Yes you’ve, but you’re still confused what has that got to do with changing the way you live! Hang on,  let me explain.
Abnormal change in weather conditions are caused due to certain human practices and the way of life, which result in global warming.
Global warming is the heating up of the Earth’s environment due to the increasing greenhouse gas levels.
Most of it is due to the emission of carbon dioxide out of burning of fossil fuel, and discharge of CFC gases when we use things like air conditioners.
Now, air conditioners, electronic devices, appliances, gizmos, vehicles, are all a part of our lifestyle – isn’t it?
If you all change your lifestyle and reduce the use of all these things, you might be able to change the global scenario.
Don’t take me wrong!
All these things and technology are not bad and even using them is essential. But, you can make a choice for a different way of living so that your life is not centered on, or around them.
If you still doubt the necessity of lifestyle change, then read these mind blowing facts!

Recent Change of Lifestyle and its Negative Impact

Did you know that the heat spike you experienced this year was the maximum our Earth experienced in the last 11,000 years!
Now that’s really serious, isn’t it?
Research shows that the globe was cooling for several thousands of years until the 20th century, when the trend reversed.
The duration from 1900 to 1910 was in fact one of the coolest in the past 11,000 years. But after that, it all changed.
The heating increased since 1910, and within a century, the globe was the warmest ever from 2000 to 2010!
Such rapid and dramatic change in the global temperature was never observed in the past. This proves that global warming is not natural; it is abnormal.
And, all of this is directly related to the lifestyle we adopted since the 20th century.
I’m sure this gives you clear signal to change your lifestyle that at present most probably depends on excessive use of energy and power derived from conventional sources.
Imagine that it took the world from ice age to up to 7000 years ago to warm up by 1.25 degrees. Contrastingly, we made it happen in just two decades – from 1920s to 1940s!
Hey, what are you up to?
It’s high time you acknowledge this fact that every single person contributes to global warming and the climate change on Earth.
The problem is grave and the consequences could be very bad unless you take steps to reduce global warming.
You cannot ignore to change your lifestyle for the better anymore. I’m not talking about exercising and having healthy food choices in life, which are essential.
However, it’s more about making a choice to lessen using things that utilize fossil fuels directly or indirectly, and not becoming dependent on them. Click here to know about fossil fuel.
To save the world from destruction, you need to change your lifestyle, as much as you can.

What Can You Do To Change Your Lifestyle

How can you control global warming? How is your lifestyle responsible for it? What lifestyle changes do you need to make?
Of course, you can’t make any big or drastic changes, which aren’t expected either.
But you can surely help a little to discharge less carbon dioxide and other harmful gases that cause the green house effect.
You see, every electrical, electronic equipment, or device you use, and every petrol, diesel, or gas powered vehicle you drive – contributes to global warming.
Of course, you cannot literally stop using all these – it’s not possible in this modern age.
However, what you can do is to reduce their usage, or not unnecessarily spend energy in these activities.
How to do that? You got plenty of matter online if you’re concerned.
Remember, that most of the energy and power you use comes from the fossil fuels, which are limited.
Overuse might make them extinct, and you might just plunge back into the dark ages!
You should not only think of yourself, but as responsible citizens and parents, you need to think ahead about your children and their children, and so on.
You want a safer and comfortable world for them – don’t you?
What you and I need is more energy production using the non-conventional energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, water energy, and others.
More so, it is the governments that should be doing all the needful, and they’ll prioritize this exercise only if we pressurize them.

Earth Hour – A Signal to Change Lifestyle for A Cause

Earth Hour is merely symbolic. It is an initiative to encourage people to take up the responsibility of the damage that is done to the Earth’s environment.
Earth Hour is celebrated since 2007 in the month of March.
It is not only about and limited to switching off lights and not using the power for one hour, it is more about changing your lifestyle, and taking it beyond just one hour.
I would say that Earth Hour should be practiced as much as possible and not just limited to an hour on a particular day. However, let’s try to use this day to begin creating awareness – isn’t it?
There are some who don’t believe that such events would’ve any significant effect to change the lifestyle that is a norm and has been followed for more than a century.
Few regard the concept of Earth Hour as “anti-technology” and take it as an insult to human progress and scientific development.
I don’t think Earth Hour suggests not using technology, or demeans it in anyway.
Instead, it conveys to not be entirely dependent on conventional sources of energy and to develop a lifestyle to minimize its use.
And, I believe if one person can make a difference, then there’s no doubt that we all together can surely bring about the change that is required, if we just make up our minds, right?
Check out this video and see what people are doing all over the world.
Earth Hour 2014 Official Video ~ YouTube Video
If you all close lights for one hour,
it can save enough energy to light up the homes of many around the globe for months.

What To Do and Not to Do During Earth Hour

In the one hour of blackout, you must be wondering what in the world will you do!
You’re so dependent on light and power that you can’t even think of living without it – isn’t it?
“How can I survive without electricity for one full hour? That’s insane!” some would say. See, how much dependent we’ve become on electricity. 🙂
I know such thoughts creep in as change is difficult. And, it is not easy to break our habits, or move out of our comfort zones.
C’mon, take it as a challenge or an adventure. Be a sport and come up with an innovative idea to be a part of this global revolution.
Okay, so maybe you plan to have a candle light dinner to celebrate that one hour of darkness. Well, that’s kind of being innovative but still you’d be emitting green house gas!
How can using candles cause more harm? It is because candles are made from paraffin, which are in fact derived from crude oil or a fossil fuel.
So, the more candles you use, the more you contribute to carbon dioxide emissions! You should better use some eco-friendly candles, if you want to use them at all.
Alternatively, try using some cooking oil in a small dish, make a cotton wick by rolling some cotton into a thick string, and soak it in the oil. Light up one end of the cotton.
Even going for a ride in your vehicle will not be a good idea as you burn more fuel and cause traffic jams that add to the trouble.
Let’s stick to our base, home or elsewhere, and try not to use electricity in any way in that one hour.
You may not use your: TV, computer, Internet, any electrical or electronic device, including lights, fans, air conditioner, heaters, and so on. All of them or some of them, if possible.
Even if you use things like mobile and battery inventors, you’ll spend more energy charging them later. So, try to avoid them.
That is so difficult, isn’t it? It is almost like living in the medieval dark ages! I agree. 🙂
But look on the brighter side. This one hour give you the time to:
1. Be with Yourself – Meditate, or sit quietly at some place. Observe life.
2. Relax – You don’t do anything, but relax. You can even pray, if you feel you never had the time to do that earlier.
3. Talk – You can talk to your spouse, your parents, and spend time with your children. I’m sure technology has made your life so busy and hectic that you hardly find time for these essential activities.
4. Engage – Reach out to your neighbors, and socialize with them. Have a gathering in a common area out in the open and just chill out!
5. Skywatch – When did you last look up the sky?
Just sit or lie down from where you can access the view to the sky, and simply gaze up. You might spot Jupiter, Mercury, and Saturn if you know where to look!
6. Walk – Do you go for your morning or evening walks? It yes, then change your timings to match the Earth Hour timing for a day. If you don’t walk, this might be a good reason to start.
7. CFL – Use this spare time to change all conventional bulbs in your house to CFL bulbs. They use less power.
Hey! It’s amazing that by changing your lifestyle and banishing electrical power for one hour you get to do so many things you never found time for before!
You make up so much of family time, time for your spouse, and for yourself.
Earth Hour not only saves you money but buys you happiness for free! Don’t you agree?
Don’t you think you should’ve such events often giving you the opportunity to relax and rewind. 🙂
Let me know more ideas in the comments regarding what all you can do during the Earth Hour and at other times when you want to save the carbon energy resources of our Earth.

What you always wanted to know about body language

By GREG CALLAGHAN

What’s the best handshake in the business environment?
One that builds rapport. If the person you’re meeting has quite a firm handshake, aim to match it; if it’s softer, reduce your grip.

firm handshake
This helps the other person feel you’re not trying to overpower them and shows them the relationship is equal. Be mindful of cultural variations, however. Even in Australia, country people tend to come in from a longer distance for a handshake than city people.

What are the five worst body gestures that could sink your chances in a job interview? (1) Either not enough or too much eye contact. Always match the interviewer’s level of eye contact.
eye contact

(2) Slouching, especially with your legs pointed towards the exit door. This projects disengagement and indifference. (3) Fidgeting or touching things. Shows you’re either bored or nervous. (4) Crotch display
Crotch display
or the foot-on-leg position.
foot-on-leg
Both signal a competitive nature, which can be interpreted as a negative. (5) Hands behind your head or arms folded.
Hands behind your head
The first reads as superior; the second as defensive. Sit with your hands on your lap: it’s a more humble approach.

How much of a person’s basic personality traits (for example, extrovert, introvert, anxiety-prone, laid-back etc) can you tell from their body language?
You can’t judge a personality from just one piece of body language. However, it’s generally true that extroverts tend to touch others more, lean outwards, thrive on external attention, and move quickly. Introverts tend to touch themselves, lean inward and have slower action/reaction times.

Studies show that men tend to project more powerful body language when they’re with other males. What strategies, then, should a woman take in a male-dominated work environment?
Have your desk facing the door from a corner of your office. Use good eye contact. Don’t look down or away, which suggest shyness and/or submissiveness. Match a man’s handshake. Feel free to take up more room when you’re in a meeting – don’t appear small. Don’t use words or body language that appears overly deferential. Lean forward when listening; stand straight while speaking. Dress appropriately.

Tell us about the giveaways when men and women are “into” one another.
There are obvious ones such as the face platter, in which a woman places her head on her hands.
her head on her hands
Proximity signals - placing a glass or handbag close to the male - also show a level of trust and acceptance. Her legs and feet will tend to point toward him. She may toss her head back and flick her hair
flick her hair
, or give a side glance with her head down and eyes up, Princess Diana style. She may try to fix something he is wearing – straightening his tie etc – or touch him a little more than is her custom. Rolling her hips when she’s walking away, or turning back and giving a smile over her shoulder are more obvious signs. The bloke? He’ll give longer-than-usual glances, lean forward, and may readjust his tie or shirt cuff. If he’s standing he’ll have his hands on his belt near the crutch to display maleness.

Studies have shown that men tend to over-read sexual interest from women. She might flick her hair and smile but all she’s doing is being sociable rather than flirting. How can he be sure?
Yes, playing with hair or flicking it back can also be a sign of nervousness in a woman. You need what we call the three Cs – clusters of signals (at least three or four positive signals), congruence (where her words match her body language) and context (the social environment you’re in at the time). Some men require at least three or four signals from a woman before it sinks in that she is interested…

So women are better at reading body language than men.
Yes, twice as good. Research from Harvard University suggests that when reading expressions and decoding situations, women were correct 87% of the time while men scored only 42%. Women are much better at reading emotion. This may be due to their having children: learning to read facial expressions and determine needs non-verbally.

A recent Dutch study found that waiters get much larger tips when they use the same words and speak in a similar tone to their customers. What can we learn from this?

Using the customer’s language - and their level of vocabulary - helps to build rapport, which is why it’s a part of so much sales training today. If a customer uses simpler words than you, adjust your speech so you at least sound on their wavelength. Never try to change their words, however. If someone says to you, “This seems to be an issue”, don’t ask them, “What seems to be the problem?” What you’ve done is turn an “issue” into a “problem”. Tone - the way we use our voice, as opposed to what we say - is also important, and represents up to 38% of total communication. Mirroring is so successful because people prefer to speak to like-minded people.

We know that people without much of a conscience - sociopaths and hardened criminals - are the best liars. Who else are good liars?
The hardest types to read are those who’ve been trained to communicate with body language – politicians, actors and businesspeople who are trained to project a certain persona or image. They can spend years learning to project body signals that don’t really reflect who they are inside. There’s a standard tactic to detect whether someone is lying, based on the “constructed” and “remembered” parts of the brain. I would ask someone what they did last week. Then I would ask them what they are doing next week and watch their eyes. They will access the remembered information with the first question; then they’ll access the constructed side with the second question. The third question would be the one in which I would seek the truth. The most basic telltale sign of lying is the so-called Pinocchio effect, where blood rushes to your nose and you touch it to counteract the effect. Covering your lips with your fingers and looking away can also betray dishonesty.

A new study from Columbia and Harvard universities shows that certain male postures not only make people feel more commanding, but remarkably, can double their testosterone levels.
The way we sit, stand or move changes the way we feel. The way we feel can affect our hormone levels. If you’re able to change your body language to match how you want the world to see you and you manage to stick with it, over time you will become the person you’re projecting - your internal world will reflect the outer. It has been shown over time that body language can even change the way we look, and our sexual attractiveness, whether it be a downward smile, or a more confident stride.

30 signs YOUR relationship has hit the comfort zone (and will go the distance)

By BIANCA

Squeezing each other's spots, leaving the toilet door open and talking while naked: 30 signs YOUR relationship has hit the comfort zone (and will go the distance)

  • Relationships hit the comfort phase after exactly 11 months and 24 days
  • Having the confidence to tell a partner their breath smells shows potential
  • Doing their laundry and wearing 'ugly' underwear is a sign of a good bond
Do you go au natural around your partner, chat to them while naked and do their laundry? You've officially hit the comfort zone.
New research reveals that relationships hit the comfort phase after exactly 11 months and 24 days - when you're happy to squeeze each other's spots, leave the toilet door open and tell all about ex-partners.
talking while naked
The research analysed 2,000 couples and found it takes almost a year to get used to sharing your life and living space with a significant other.

And the key signs you've entered the comfort zone include allowing your other half to see you when ill, without make-up on and in your lounging clothes.
Using the toilet without locking the door, feeling free to cry in front of your partner and letting them look after you when poorly are other sure signs of being in a comfortable relationship.

The poll also found having the confidence to tell a partner if their breath is a little smelly or if they need a squirt of deodorant without them taking offence is a strong sign that a relationship has serious potential.
It may seem gross to some, but squeezing each other's spots or plucking stray hairs is another sign a relationship is definitely comfortable. And the cliche of finishing each other's sentences still rings true - appearing inside the top 30 signs of a comfortable partnership.
Using the toilet without locking the doo

Using the toilet without locking the door, feeling free to cry in front of your partner and letting them look after you when poorly are other sure signs of being in a comfortable relationship
Body confidence was a continuous theme, with being more relaxed about shaving, physical appearance overall and wearing swimwear in front of your partner all being cited as good markers for a relationship lasting the pace.
It's not always smooth sailing though - a third have been in a relationship where their partner got too comfortable too quickly and the illusion of a perfect relationship is most commonly broken when the man breaks wind in front of his partner.
Nearly a fifth said a new partner had overstepped the mark by getting in touch with their family members too early, or asking about ex-partners.

Having the confidence to tell a partner if their breath is a little smelly

Having the confidence to tell a partner if their breath is a little smelly or if they need a squirt of deodorant without them taking offence is another tell-tale sign of a strong relationship

A spokesperson for Measure digital bowel health test, who commissioned the research, said: 'It's interesting to see that it takes nearly a year for people to feel they can really be comfortable around each other.
'At first we're very conscious and don't want to be seen as anything but our best, but gradually over time we let people in more and more as our trust and confidence builds.
'Some might say the signs you've reached that place in a relationship can signal an end to the romance, but it's a good sign that you're comfortable in your partner's presence and can share any topic or worry with them without fear of being judged.'
